I am a planner and a list maker.
I’ve made packing lists, checklists, wish lists, top ten lists, grocery lists, to do lists, pros/cons lists, laundry lists and shopping lists.
I will soon be forty-seven years old. I believe it is time to formalize my bucket list.
“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” ~ C.S. Lewis
The term ‘bucket list’ was popularized in 2007 by the film, The Bucket List. The expression originated from the idiom, “to kick the bucket” meaning “to die”. Thus, a bucket list is a list specifying those things one wishes to do before dying.
I’d rather re-frame the term. I will refer to it as my “hope to do” list…or the “everything is possible” list…or “life to do” list…or maybe my “dreams” list.
It is exciting to dream and hope. Dreams and hopes are necessary for life. They offer a sense of purpose which is one of the characteristics of those who live longer lives.
I realize that time, money and commitments may limit these aspirations. I will allow myself to add to, subtract from and change this list, however and when, I want.

“The very least you can do in your life is to figure out what you hope for. The most you can do is live inside that hope, running down its hallways, touching the walls on both sides.” ~ Barbara Kingsolver, Animal Dreams
